After a a couple weeks of playing this installment of Battlefield, i have to say that it's the best FPS i've seen to date... least till MW3 comes out, then that opinion might change. Being a huge fan of the FPS genre and playing a great deal of the titles that have come in gone in the past, all the goodies and attention to detail really make this title shine. For example:
Ballistics finally count! Ok, so maybe battlefield 2 had it too, it didnt get to play that one very much. The speed a bullet travels to a target is and the effects of gravity are actually taken into account and effect game play. The further the target, the more the bullet drops and the less damage it does. Finally, a game where you actually have to think a little and adjust to make the shot. next step is to add windage.
Graphics and sound are top notch. The game is so fekking pretty! I think they finally took a sound crew to the shooting range and let them record the actually weapons.
Destroy-able environments... ish. not everything can be destroyed, but most building can basically be leveled of you throw enough high explosives at them. Too bad they left out bullet penetration. What? I can't shoot through that ply wood and hit my target? i have to destroy the plywood first? Thought this was a high powered rifle...
Cussing EVERYWHERE!!! Love it! I mean, FPS by nature should be an "R" rated affair, and i've never met a marine (or any other soldier for that matter that didn't cuss. I think it makes the gameplay more realistic.
We have pink mist!!! shoot someone and blood go splashing off them and will leave a stain on a wall if it's glose enough. Next step will be to do like "soldier of fortune" and let us blow body parts off eachother. Sorry, but if i hit you in the shoulder with high power rifle, that arm should be on the ground, to say nothing about a .50 cal hit. they should be mopping that guy up with a sponge!
All and all, the game is exceptionally well done, so much so that i dare say a few of my Veteran friends might have some flashbacks.
Now for the bad.
In online team deathmatch, most people simply choose random spawn. I do too, can't help it i'm to lazy to have to think my way through picking a spawn point, and it goes against me "less talk, more fight" mentality when it comes to FPS Problem is, it truely is RANDOM! too many times have i spawned litereally right in front of a tango and get my ass shot off within the first half second of appearing. but at the same time, ive blasted fools who popped up right in front of me too.
Teamwork is a huge plus... if you can find it. it seems there are just too many kids playing (apparently parents are much more lax then when i was growing up), so using any sort of coordination is kinda out the window. That and it seems the only idiots that have a mic only use it to whine and complain about this that or the other thing.
There are still a few more glitches but it seems that people at EA are doing their jobs and trying to keep the game up.
So these are but a few things id like to say about this fine game. i'm not going to get into other goodies, like being able to carry around your own mortar to use whenever you like, or the vehicles like tanks, helis, and fighters. i'd be here all day.
I give this game a 9 out of 10. if your an FPS fan, GET THIS GAME!!
On a side note. Are there any PS3 Players out there with a mic that can help me with the Co-Op missions, like i said, few people have mics and fewer still seem to have a clue on basic combat strategies. Look me up, i'm "Point-N-Click"
